Frequently asked questions
Everything about the fitting, the 100-night trial, delivery and care — plus short answers on pillow height and materials.
Fit & fitting
What makes this pillow different from regular pillows?
Standard pillows are made for an average head. Your hana pillow is shaped around your sleep position and your body: from one photo with your phone we calculate its height, head dip and edge angle.
How does the fitting work?
Right on our homepage. You choose the position(s) you sleep in and take one photo with your phone – side sleepers from the front, back sleepers from the side. Then you tell us how soft your mattress is. We calculate your pillow core and show it as a technical drawing, with its height, head dip and edge angle. It takes about a minute, with no appointment. Start your fitting
Do I need to send a photo?
No. The photo is the quickest way, but you can also continue without one: then you enter your height, weight and shoulder width (from the base of your neck to your shoulder tip) – back sleepers choose the shape of their upper back instead of the shoulder width.
How do I choose the right pillow size?
You don't. Every hana pillow has the standard size of 50 × 70 cm. Choose your sleep position and take one photo, and we calculate the shape for you.
What happens to my photo?
Your photo is used for your fitting and nothing else.
Is this pillow suitable for all sleep positions?
Yes. Your fitting takes into account whether you sleep on your side, back or stomach, and which position you sleep in most if you switch.
The pillow I received doesn't match the measurements I saw at fitting. Why?
The measurements at fitting are your sleep geometry – the dimensions the pillow holds when you sleep on it. The final pillow is cut to a slightly different unloaded shape that accounts for foam compression, your body weight, and how your head settles overnight. This is how the fit works, and it's why the pillow feels right when you lie down on it.
Neck & sleep
Will this pillow help with neck pain or stiffness?
We don't make medical promises. The right pillow height is a central topic in sleep research, for example in a 2025 study in Sleep (Oxford Academic) on pillow heights adjusted to the millimetre. What our customers say is in their own words in the reviews on our homepage.
How high should my pillow be?
High enough that your cervical spine keeps its natural line while you lie down. What sets that height depends on your position: on your side, your shoulder width and how deep your shoulder sinks into the mattress; on your back, the shape of your upper back and the back of your head. In both positions, what counts is how much the pillow gives under your head. More in our guide to pillow height.
Which pillow do I need as a side sleeper?
One with the right height that holds that height through the night. On your side, the pillow has to fill the whole space between mattress and head; that space comes down to your shoulder width and your mattress. Material, shape and size come second. More in our guide for side sleepers.
Which pillow material holds its height best?
Latex and open-cell cold-cure foam hold their height most consistently. Down keeps losing height under the weight of your head, and viscoelastic (memory) foam gets softer with body heat and harder in a cold bedroom. More in our material comparison.
How often should I replace my pillow?
When it no longer holds its height – not by the calendar. With fiber and down pillows that often happens after one to three years, with viscoelastic foam after two to four, with dense cold-cure foam and latex after five to eight. How to check it is in our guide to pillow lifespan.
Order, delivery & trial
How long does delivery take?
Your pillow is made in Switzerland and is with you in 1–2 weeks.
Is there a trial period?
Yes, 100 nights from delivery. If the pillow isn't right for you, email info@hana-sleep.com before the 100 nights are up. You get a return label, send it back free of charge and receive the full price back within 14 days of it arriving.
Will my existing pillowcases fit?
Yes. The pillow comes in the standard 50 × 70 cm size, so your existing pillowcases fit – no special covers needed.
Materials & care
What materials are used?
A light-blue AirCore with ventilation channels, a soft MemoryTouch layer in the inner cover and a breathable TENCEL™ cover. The materials are OEKO-TEX® certified and hypoallergenic. Standard size 50 × 70 cm.
How do I care for my pillow?
You can take the TENCEL™ cover off and wash it; the temperature is on the label. Don't wash the blue foam core: it doesn't go in the washing machine and shouldn't get wet.
